What Makes Eberle Winery Stand Out in Paso Robles
A few years ago, my parents treated me to a wine tasting in Paso Robles to celebrate my graduation after five years of college. We stopped by Eberle Winery, and I was really impressed by everything it had to offer.
The Winery’s Entrance and Ambience
When you first arrive, you’re greeted by a statue of a boar, a boar water fountain, and two adorable poodles named Sangiovese and Barbera. The winery sits on a hillside, offering stunning views of acres of grapevines – it’s honestly breathtaking.
Exploring the Winery’s Interior
The winery looks small from the outside, but once you step inside, it opens up (kind of like Doctor Who’s TARDIS). We started with our first glass of wine, a Cotes-du-Robles Blanc, made of 58% Grenache Blanc, 38% Roussanne, and 4% Viognier. It wasn’t my favorite wine from the tasting, but it was a nice way to kick off the experience.
The Cave Tour and Barrel Aging
Down in the cave, we learned that there are around 2,000 wine barrels stored there. The cave stays a consistent 68 or 69 degrees year-round, making it perfect for aging wine. They also offer VIP wine tastings in the caves for free if you become a member. On top of that, there’s a banquet hall that can hold up to 80 people for events, like their annual crab feast.
Meet Daniel, Our Tour Guide
Our tour guide and wine server, Daniel, was fantastic. He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and clearly loved what he did. Turns out, we have the same favorite grapes, Barbera and Sangiovese. Daniel even let me try a special reserve of Barbera, exclusive to club members, and it was amazing.
The Wines I Tried
I also tasted the Chardonnay, Full Boar Red, Eberle Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon. I even sampled a few wines my grandparents were tasting. The Full Boar Red and the Zinfandel were my favorites. The Full Boar Red is a blend of Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah, and Sangiovese, and while I’m usually not a fan of Zinfandel or Syrah, this wine surprised me. I actually enjoyed it.
Conclusion
All in all, Eberle Winery was a great experience. The staff were friendly, the wines were delicious, and I’d definitely recommend putting it on your list if you’re touring wineries in Paso Robles.
