Halloween Candy Wine Pairings That Are Actually Fun
October means one thing to me (besides finally being able to wear sweaters again): Halloween. This post is for my best friend who lives for this holiday and would totally appreciate me combining two of our favorite things—wine and candy.
Let’s be real. Some wine snobs might cringe at pairing wine with Halloween candy, but wine is meant to be fun, and there are no rules. These pairings are meant to be enjoyed, not judged. So grab your leftover trick-or-treat stash and let’s get into it.
Twix + Chardonnay
Twix is a classic. Chocolate, caramel, and buttery shortbread all in one bite. It deserves a wine that can hang, so I picked an oaked Chardonnay. The caramel in the Twix brings out the vanilla and baking spice notes in the wine, while the cookie matches that creamy texture. It’s a rich-on-rich pairing, and I’m into it.
Reese’s + Lambrusco
If you’ve been here a while, you already know I’m obsessed with Lambrusco. Pairing it with Reese’s just makes sense. The slight sweetness and bubbles in Lambrusco balance the salty peanut butter and bring out the milk chocolate. I could eat Reese’s every day, and I could drink Lambrusco every day, so this might be my personal dream combo.
Snickers + Pinot Noir
Snickers are layered with peanuts, caramel, nougat, and chocolate. They need a wine that won’t fight all of that but still stands up on its own. Enter Pinot Noir. It’s juicy and light enough to let the candy shine, but it also adds a little earthiness and brightness that makes Snickers feel extra indulgent. If you don’t love this pairing, maybe you’re just hungry.
Sour Patch Kids + Sauvignon Blanc
Sour Patch Kids are intense. You need a wine with enough zing to keep up, and Sauvignon Blanc gets the job done. High acidity meets high acidity, and instead of clashing, it balances out the tartness and lets all the fruity flavors come through. This pairing is weirdly refreshing and kind of addictive.
Starburst + Dry Rosé
This one is for the pink Starburst fans, which… is everyone, right? Dry Rosé often has flavors of strawberry, cherry, and citrus, which makes it a perfect match for Starburst. Especially the pink and red ones. The wine’s acidity plays off the tart candy, and the fruit flavors just make each other better. This pairing is peak girl dinner energy.
