So you’re studying for the WSET Level 2 exam and you want to know how to pass with distinction. You’re in luck because I’m going to tell you exactly how I passed with distinction so you can apply these same tips to your study routine!
Be strategic about your test date.
When I was setting up my test date, I made sure to give myself two months to study from the date the course finished. In reality, I think I only needed one month, but you might be different. Choose a date that works best for you. If you think you need two months to study, make sure you’re studying almost every day for two months, and not two weeks out of the two months.
Read the book.
This is an obvious one, but read the book! Everything you need to know is in the book, so when you think you’re done reading it, read it again. I read the book at least four times before I took the test and it made it so much easier to recall information! You’ll also need to know everything in the level two book if you plan to take the WSET level three.
Fill out the workbook.
There’s a workbook provided to you to go along with your book and it definitely comes in handy when you’re studying. I actually saved the workbook for the week before the exam and I spent three days filling it out. It’s a lot of writing, but it helps you remember information. This especially helped with the Germany section!
Take practice exams.
Take the practice exams provided in your workbook and online (if you’re taking the class online). You can also find practice exams on different websites. These are extremely helpful study tools! One thing I did was mark down all of the questions I got wrong and turned those into flash cards. Speaking of which…
Make flash cards.
Flash cards are easy to make and can also help you memorize information. You can use websites like Quizlet or write them down on physical index cards. I prefer Quizlet because they have an app for your phone, so you always have your flashcards on hand. The bonus of having flashcards on hand at all times is that you can look over them in the dentist’s waiting room or even in bed when you’re about to sleep.
Take breaks.
There’s no point in studying if you’re not going to allow yourself to take breaks. Whether it’s five minutes to watch TikTok on your phone or a short trip down the street to get coffee, taking breaks allow your brain to recharge. Let the information settle in your head before you try to cram more in!
Good luck with studying for the WSET Level 2 and let me know if you pass with distinction!
