Wine and Animal Crossing

The world seems to be obsessed with Animal Crossing: New Horizons that was released on March 18th. If you’re like me, you’ve been a fan of Animal Crossing since it came out on Game Cube and have played it on almost every Nintendo gaming system since. Right now I’m loving the new game because it’s different from all of the other ones, plus the graphics on this one are a huge upgrade.

Since we’re all stuck at home because of social distancing, we’re probably drinking a lot of wine, right? I know I am. I’ve been drinking wine while playing Animal Crossing every day. It’s probably the reason I’m falling way behind on blog posts… oops! Just for the fun of it, I’ve compiled a list of some suggestions on what you should drink while you’re playing Animal Crossing.

Cabernet Sauvignon

I’m recommending Cabernet Sauvignon for all of my serious players out there that can play for hours nonstop. You need a wine where the flavors linger on your tastebuds for a while, so you’re not constantly having to put your game down to take a sip of wine. You can focus more on building your island and less on the wine because you can pretty much count on a Cabernet to meet your expectations.

Rosé of Pinot Noir

Rosé of Pinot Noir is an easy drinker, which is why it’s perfect for all of the relaxed Animal Crossing players. This light and fruity wine is something you can casually sip on while digging up fossils, shooting down balloons, and watering flowers. Heck, do a little shopping while you’re at it. With a Rosé, there’s no pressure to get all of your Animal Crossing chores done at once, so just relax and sip your way through a glass or two.

Sauvignon Blanc

I love a good Sauvignon Blanc as much as the next which is why I’m including it on this list. Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and can have tropical fruit or mineral flavors depending on the region it’s from. This wine is perfect for players that just like to go out and explore the mystery island tours. There are so many things to discover on this tour and you’re going to need a light wine to get you through a few boring islands before you find the coveted koi pond island.

Pinot Noir

In my opinion, Pinot Noir is a social wine. It’s usually a safe bet to bring Pinot Noir to a gathering or a family dinner because a lot of people enjoy Pinot and for good reason. It’s light, can be fruit-forward, and it pairs with a lot of food. Pinot Noir is the wine you want to sip on when you’re playing Animal Crossing online with your friends. Unfortunately, we can’t go out and see our friends, so why not plan a virtual happy hour, pop open the wine, and have a party on one of your friend’s islands.

Sparkling Wine

It doesn’t need to be a special occasion to pop open a bottle of bubbly. Whenever I drink sparkling wine, I always feel fancy. This is why I think it’s the best choice for the “fancy” players. These are the Animal Crossing players that earn all of their money from the “stalk” market and have built waterfalls and lavish fountains surrounding their three-story mansion. This is the kind of player I aspire to be. Honestly, these players probably already enjoy sparkling wine to begin with.
